True Religion’s Dressing and Grooming Standards

and clothe yourselves with the new [personality], which through accurate knowledge is being made new according to the image of the One who created it” (Colossians 3:10).

True religion is clothed with the new personality, one which becomes more and more like Jesus’ personality.

Although the inner person is so much more important than the outer person, the way you dress says something about you. Let’s do some common sense analysis of what the bible says and point out a few easily identifiable bad examples out there: Catholic leadership, evangelical Protestants, and the Jews.

We don’t know for sure if Jesus was rich or poor. But the bible tells us he owned a seamless tunic (John 19:23). A seamless tunic took about six months of hard work to make. So Jesus had the equivalent of a thousand dollar handmade suit. What this means to us is that Jesus did not wear funny clothes.  So, if you wear a comical looking hat like the pope, you are not doing what Jesus did. Neither did Jesus go to the other extreme and dress too casually. So if you are the faker protestant church minister who wears jeans and a t-shirt then you are not doing what Jesus did.

Jesus was dressed in accordance with his culture and customs, but he was dressed nicely and cleanly and respectably. Jesus wanted to reflect the dignity and cleanliness of his father. So don’t dresses like a penguin or a crow, as do all the fakers in the Catholic Church?  And don’t dress like a punk teenager as do the fakers in the protestant church. Dress in something clean and nice and respectable in accordance with the best of your cultural customs.
