Don’t Look like the World

“Consequently I entreat YOU by the compassions of God, brothers, to present YOUR bodies a sacrifice living, holy, acceptable to God, a sacred service with YOUR power of reason. And quit being fashioned after this system of things, but be transformed by making YOUR mind over, that YOU may prove to yourselves the good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:1-2).

A real Christian is not fashioned after the world. We are encouraged not to look (figuratively and literally) like the world.

For example… your teenage daughter or son comes home with a group of disrespectful kids who smell like marijuana, curse, dress like slobs or gangster rappers or prostitutes, and have their faces hidden behind their smart cell phones like antisocial misfits. But your child tells you they are the “popular kids” at school.  Are you going to let them into your house and let them influence your family? You are not wise if you do.

Worse yet, why are you, full grown adults who claim to be Christians, chasing after the “popular people” of this evil world in an attempt to be like them, look like them, and be their friends. Think about it. Are you any better than a dumb teenage boy who just wants to be popular? A godly child knows she is loved by the creator of the Universe and only wants to glorify Him. A godly child doesn’t want to be liked by the “popular people” who are stars in Satan’s world. A godly child wants to be friends with like-minded people who love and honor God.
